Cover Up

Found poetry from Sunday’s sermon on Genesis 3.  You can listen to it in its entirety by clicking here.

What’s wrong with this world,

is what’s wrong with me.

Deception:

“Did God really say?”

“You will not surely…”

Result:

Guilt.

Shame.

Eyes were open.

A metaphor for

a greater nakedness.

Exposed.

Uncomfortable.

Our response:

Fig Leaves.

Cover up.

But…

Transparency isn’t the problem.

Sin is.

We hate being watched.

We hate being seen.

We can’t bear it

so we cover it up.

Drafty.

If you can see through theirs,

they can see through yours.

No matter how hard

you try

it doesn’t work.

We want to be known

and accepted.

But that type of

love and acceptance

only happens

in the Gospel.

Animal skins.

Covered through

Sacrifice.

Death.

What I can’t do for myself.

The Great Exchange:

Now…

clothed in garments of righteousness

and salvation.
